Questions security teams ask
Which files can people view in CIPHER?
PDFs, Word documents, images and videos open in a protected viewer in the browser, so people can read a document without downloading it. For guest links, you choose whether downloads are allowed at all.
Does capture prevention need the viewer's webcam?
Yes. Detection uses the camera on the device where the document is open, so the browser asks the viewer for camera permission. Frames are analysed in the browser, in memory, and discarded. No image or video is sent to CIPHER or stored anywhere.
Who decides whether protection is on?
Workspace owners and admins set the security policy: phone detection on or off, its sensitivity (three levels), screenshot protection, and how long an idle session stays signed in.
What will CIPHER not catch?
CIPHER sees what the device's camera sees. A phone held outside the camera's view, or a second person photographing from behind the viewer, is outside what it detects. It closes one specific gap and works alongside access control, policy and training, not instead of them.
How do you avoid blurring the screen by mistake?
A phone has to be detected more than once within a second before the document is blurred, and the view stays blurred until the camera has been clear for a moment, which prevents flicker. Admins can raise or lower sensitivity to suit their office.
Which browsers are supported?
Current desktop browsers that support WebAssembly and camera access. The detection model downloads once, is cached by the browser, and runs on the device's processor without special hardware.
